Why not use a mechanism like FTP Passive mode to allow these faster ILs to work properly over firewalls and even on client machines that have two nics (real or virtual)? I'm running over a vpn and the server is trying to connect to the wrong nic card. We've had to use the UIL IL to get around this and firewalls.
Why not just send the client some information at the beginning of the connection of which port it should connect to create it's other socket to the server?
