Shared connections

Is there a way to set up an app as a subscriber of pub/sub messages and point to point message receiver using one socket connection?

I have modified my ulimit settings, I have open files set to 8192 and the server stops accepting connections at about 960. I have an app that requires 1000 clients that will be receiving both pub/sub and point to point messages. Any ideas on how to utilize the same socket for both types or open up the server to receive more connections.

This is part of the JMS1.1 spec, which has been
implemented in jboss4, but not backported to jboss3
yet.
