How to make jms do file based persistence instead of databas

I noticed that our jms messages are persisted into hypersonic database. How do we configure the jms so that it persistes to files? Where can I find more jms configuration document? Do I have to use JmxRA to use XA in jms? Is this the only option? Can I config the ConnectionFactory (jndi) to use XA instead?

JBoss disabled this option I think in 3.2.x or 4.x (some relatively recent version).
