Help! JBoss in Production Environment suddenly shutdown prob

Dear all,

Urgent! I am using JBoss 3.0.6 bundled with Tomcat 4.1.18 and using mod_jk (ajp13) connecting to Apache1.3.24 on Redhat Linux 7.3 on Intel machine.

I have problem that the JBoss shutdown suddenly (without log) if several users running heavily load stateless session beans (with query to DB and return a large jsp page about 4xx kb to client). Any one can tell me what may cause this and how to tune JBoss to avoid this?

Do you mean a clean shutdown or a crash?

If it is a crash it is likely an out of memory
or some other out of resources problem that the jvm is
not handling cleanly.

Thanks Adrian, I think it is a crash since it 'disappear' suddenly. I have received many customer complain.

My current JVM optioon setting is '-Xincgc -Xms512m -Xmx1500m' and my machine has 2GB RAM. I have tried to increase -Xmx to more than 1500m but JBOSS does not start at all. What can I tune (JBOSS config. / tomcat)??

The two major controls for memory are
the entity bean cache size set in standardjboss.xml
(default 1 million) and the jms cache max memory which
won't set in jbossmq-service.xml

A more likely problem is the number of file descriptors
controlled by ulimit. This is includes open sockets.

Consider an alternate JVM which might give more
informative information rather than just crashing.

If you are using UNIX, are you starting the jboss
process using "nohup". This may be a silly question,
but I've seen it before where the shell in which
the process was started exists and the background
process dies because "nohup" wasn't used.

Thanks, bcaceres-tririga. I am using Linux and I just use the bundled startup shell script to start Jboss. Still cannot find the reason....
