Starting JBoss twice

Hi Folks,
I am using JBoss3.2.2 on a machine(Server1).I start jboss by executing command run.sh.Now I want that if somebody comes and tries to execute run.sh on Server1,jboss shouldnot be start again or the already running jboss should be shutdown before it is started again.
Can anyone tell me is it possible and what is the solution for this?

write a little script that attempts to bind a socket to a known jboss port, if it fails it means the server is already running
