1. Re: Jboss mbean server (vs) JVM Platform mbean server
dimitris Jan 21, 2008 3:39 AM (in response to speedveen)You are really talking about the same MBeanServer implementation (the JDK's) and 2 different instances of it, so there is no difference in performance.
If you start jboss with run -Djboss.platform.mbeanserver you can actually tell jboss to use the platform mbeanserver to register its mbeans, so there will be only one there. -

speedveen Jan 21, 2008 8:49 AM (in response to speedveen)Ahha, then is there a way i can enable remote monitoring/management of an mbean only through jboss and not through the JVM mbean server?

3. Re: Jboss mbean server (vs) JVM Platform mbean server
dimitris Jan 21, 2008 8:58 AM (in response to speedveen)If you don't specify remote access flags to the JVM for the platform mbeanserver, there won't be a way to remotely access it.
You'd then have to secure jboss access, as usual. -
4. Re: Jboss mbean server (vs) JVM Platform mbean server
speedveen Jan 28, 2008 2:13 AM (in response to speedveen)Oh that's nice, was helpful information. Provided a situation where the Jboss mbean server is the platform MBean server [with th flag set], will disabling the remote access flag for jvm disable the remote access to jvm for platform mbean server? Or in other sense for enabling jboss platform mbean server remote access, do i need to enable jvm remote access too?

5. Re: Jboss mbean server (vs) JVM Platform mbean server
dimitris Jan 28, 2008 5:11 AM (in response to speedveen)Answer is no.
Think of it like this: by doing -Djboss.platform.mbeanserver, the only thing that changes is a couple of JVM mbeans appearing under the java.lang... JMX domain, along the jboss ones. That's all.
