UnresolvedReferenceException in JDBC metadata

I am new to Teiid, and I'm really excited to dig in. I'm encountering an issue when importing a JDBC source and could use your help diagnosing the issue.

I am using the Designer on Version: 3.5.0 M7 (Build id: I20090430-2300), java.runtime.version=1.6.0_07-b06-153, on mac os x version 10.5.6.

I am trying to import a JDBC metadata source from Postgresql 8.2, using driver postgresql-8.2-507.jdbc3.jar.

I am able to successfully import at least one table from this database. However, another table is giving me trouble. I am including the source xmi file that is generated by the import process. This file has a number of problems reported, all of which involve "org.eclipse.emf.ecore.xmi.UnresolvedReferenceException" exceptions.

My guess is that the mixed-case in the table, column and index names is causing trouble, but I am not sure if I'm right about that. I'm basing that on the fact that the table that I have imported successfully has only lowercase table and column names.

Note, I ruled out mixed-case as being the issue. I also switched to postgresql-8.3-604.jdbc4.jar.

The stack traces attached to the above jira issue should help - it looks like some classes are not loading and that is preventing proper model generation / parsing.

First of all, I'm delighted to see someone else trying this on a Mac. I develop off a Mac myself, but haven't had the time yet to ensure the project works with Eclipse 3.5.

Second, please make both your forum posts and Jira tickets are to the Teiid Designer project, not the Teiid project.

Finally, please let us know what versions of everything else your have installed, such as EMF (which I see in the stack trace). I'm assuming you downloaded this manually since the update site archive won't find any 3.5 projects.

Your XMI file contains namespace attribute values with multiple double quotes, which the SAX Parser can't handle. We apparently aren't handling this case in our Import framework.

Also, a couple of defaultValues include complex strings (Example: "nextval('"ACCT_Account_ID_seq"'::regclass)") which is also causing problems.

If I remove the extra d-quotes and remove the offending default values, the model displays OK.

Hi again Barry -
I am trying to reproduce what you were able to accomplish in getting the XMI file to parse correctly. However, I can't seem to get an error free file without deleting huge swaths of XML, most of which is probably important to the designer.

Here is what I've tried:
I search for all instances of the HTML escape character for a double quote (i.e. amersand quot simicolon) and replace with an empty string. I save the file, and there is no apparent reduction in reported errors.

I then search for all instances of "defaultValue" attributes and remove them altogether. After saving, still no reduction in reported errors.

The only way I've found to get the file to be error free is to delete all foriegnKeys elements, all indexes elements, and all annotations elements.

Interestingly, at one point I deleted all but one of the columns elements, and successfully saved the model error free. The Package Diagram view still displayed all of the original columns. Does that seem strange to you too?

One last point on this issue: postgresql's jdbc driver typically does not like mixed case column/table names. In the past, in hibernate hbm.xml files, we've had to wrap the offending names with a set of back-tick (`) characters.

If you think there is not a solution to this until the importer issue is corrected, feel free to let me know and I'll find other things to work on in the mean time. I'm hoping I can simply hack at the XMI file by hand to get the designer to happily get to work on these tables, so looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
