why bind tomcat to jboss?

hello
i think the tomcat is a web server,and jboss is a application server,and in a distributed environment,the webserver and the appserver are seperated,you can install the tomcat in webserver,jboss in appserver.even if you host the web and app server in the same server,you still don't need to bind them together too,who can tell me what is the benefits to bind the them together?

You can do it either way, but with the integrated version, Tomcat and Jboss interact directly through the same Virtual Machine so you should see faster results.

but to the most j2ee scenario,the web server and appserver are hosted in different machine,under the this situation,you don't need to bind them together,is that true?because to the web server,the jboss is usefuless,and to the appserver,the tomcat is usefuless.
