OS X: connection refused?

I'm having trouble getting pages to be served properly... http://localhost:8080/ either does nothing or gives a "connection refused by server" error. I'm sure it's some newbie mistake, but I'm stumped. Any ideas? Help!

I'm running 2.4.4 and Catalina (but tried Tomcat too) on Mac OS 10.1.2. I fixed the hotspot bug, and the messages at server startup look fine.

May not be the same, but i had a connection problem when i had my JBoss installed in a folder with spaces in the foldername.
