1. Re: So how do you install this thing?
adrian.brock Jun 20, 2002 3:35 PM (in response to dhtmlkitchen)You have the zip. I'll assume unix, windows is similar.
Step 2. Unzip into a suitable directory.
jar -xf jboss-whatever.jar
Step 3. Use the run script in the binary directory to
start jboss
cd jboss-whatever/bin
./run.sh

6. Re: So how do you install this thing?
kdecelle Jun 20, 2002 3:59 PM (in response to dhtmlkitchen)On a linux based system I would do the following after installing the zip file.
1. Unzip the file. It should unzip under a root directory which we can refer to as {root}
2. Change to the {root}/bin directory.
3. Add execute priveleges for all the files with:
chmod +x *
4. Start it up by execxuting:
./run.sh
Every version I've every downloaded has installed and run out of the box with these steps. I recommend using jdk 1.4, although I've had it running on 1.3
Hope this helps. -
7. Re: So how do you install this thing?
dhtmlkitchen Jun 21, 2002 2:37 AM (in response to dhtmlkitchen)kdecelle,
That's more or less what I did. I got an error and the terminal said "jboss is shutting down," (or some such error message). So I guess it failed.
I tried it again, and it appeared to work:
01:38:45,061 INFO [Server] JBoss (MX MicroKernel) [3.0.0 Date:200205311035] Started in 1m:23s:427ms
Took 1min 23 sec to start up, but I think it's running.
I had to use command "." to get the shell prompt again.
Now must I make a file to set environment variables such as JBOSS_HOME and J2EE home?
I'll need to get some examples to learn this environment.
Also, what database is used with this? I need a DB for EJB, but I didn't see one in the jboss directory. -
8. Re: So how do you install this thing?
davidjencks Jun 21, 2002 2:44 PM (in response to dhtmlkitchen)run.sh sets up all the environment you need.
jboss comes with hypersonic which is ok for toy examples. There are configuration examples for free dbs such as firebird, postgres, and mysql, and many commercial dbs, in the docs/examples/jca folder. Have you read the quickstart guide from the sourceforge download page?
