using an application's log4j.xml file

I searched through the forums and on the web and was unsuccessful in finding a way to use a packaged application's log4j.xml (and log4j.jar) file. it seems that by changing the log4j.xml file in the conf dir in jboss is it possible to set log4j properties. I was wondering if it was possible to use a deployed application's own log4j.xml and log4j.jar file instead of jboss's one. I'd like to be able to deploy an application that's not dependant on me changing the log4j.xml file in jboss, if possible.
