Threading Problems on RedHat 9.0 - Please Explain...

Would someone please explain the problems that have been reported on RedHat 9.0?

In specific, is what kind of symptoms have been seen? And does anyone know what the root cause is - the VM or the OS?

It sounds like the fix is to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1. Has anyone experienced any side effects of making this change?

What kinds of issues are u talking about? Im running Shrike with Blackdown JVM 1.4.2 and Jboss 3.2.3 without any issues.

Is there a documented list of issues somewhere?

I'm trying to findout exactly that.

As I dig through the forums i see a few references to having problems and needing to LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1.

If i had to guess based on those posts, there might be some issues with Suns 1.4.2 VMs on RedHat 9.0....but i'd like to get confirmation and also more information as to what the problems are....

My sysadmin is reluctant to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1 without a good explaination.

Try searching google and you will find numerous problems with the rh9 threading model which is disabled using the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL setting disables the new threading model.
