rich:calendar highlight day cells with markers

I'd like to use the rich:calendar control for data selection in a scheduling application.
Days that have appointments associated should be highlighted (e.g. back ground color), enabled/disabled etc.

Is the calendar control capable doing this? If so, has anybody tried this? I'd appreciate any guidance!
