how can i define a default sort in rich faces date table?

hello,

im using the rich faces scrollable data table.
The first column in the table is dates, i want it to be sorted descenging by
default.
now its sorted by ascending and when i click on the header its sorted descending but i need it to be sorted descending as default.

i tried to write
<rich:column id ="test" sortOrder="DESCENDING"

but it doesnt work....
please help me. its urgent.
