Hi,

Is there any update regarding when Ajax4JSF will be compatible with JSR-168 portlets?

The dependence on a filter causes problems for portlets because requests are made to the portal (container) rather then the portlet so filters in a portlet WAR are never included in the chain.

Apache Tomahawk has a similar problem but for anyone who is interested the AJAX elements of IBM's JSF extensions do support portlets because they use a phase listener rather than depending on a filter.

do you know whether the IBM JSF extensions are available separately from the IBM websphere product range - I'm tied in to Oracle Portal and need to have something working soon!, so if it would work and is available, I may use it until ajax4jsf is ready

well I was tipped off by the presentation at:

and with a bit of digging found:

which include a sample RAD project including a jsf-ibm.jar.
the example together with the web.xml and the TLDs is a good starting point but if you want docs etc your best bet is to download an eval version of IBM RAD.

I am just doing research - You should check the license conditions of using any of this stuff. Also I am using Liferay rather than Oracle or any other portal.

I know you're looking at general use cases for portlet compatibility testing. Could I, however, ask that you make sure URLs are properly encoded using renderResponse.encodeURL(renderRequest.getContextPath() + pathString), please as this will be essential for use with WSRP portlets, even if you're not testing with these environments to start with.

I know I'm probably telling you something you already know very well, but it would be a shame to miss the opportunity whilst going through the code base.
