changing java options for jboss

I need to modify the JAVA_OPTS to add an option like
-agent:<my bootstrap agent> but when I do it directly inside of the
run.cmd file it does not seem to have any effect.

How does one modify JAVA_OPTS for jboss?

Which version of JBoss AS? In 5.1 the JAVA_OPTS are in run.conf.bat.
