Which Instance to use ?

Hi all,

To implement fail over using Apache , mod_jk and JBoss 4, which instance I should use ? is it necessory to use All instance to implement fail over using mod_jk and apache ?. We are not planning to go for load balancing. we just need fail over. Please any one help me.
