belaban Nov 23, 2006 10:25 AM (in response to rajeshchande)If the JDKs have serialVersionUID diffs, then sending an instance of those classes will not work

rajeshchande Nov 23, 2006 10:29 AM (in response to rajeshchande)Hello Bela,

belaban Nov 23, 2006 10:44 AM (in response to rajeshchande)I don't know of any such tool. But this would probably be mentioned in the release notes

5. Re: minor jdk version difference - would that be a BIG issue
rajeshchande Nov 23, 2006 11:04 AM (in response to rajeshchande)Here I found it how to get the serialversion uid: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/tooldocs/solaris/serialver.html
but, now this tool needs an argument "class name".
So I am wondering which class name would determine the SVID for the jdk?
Thanks for your answer and time.

6. Re: minor jdk version difference - would that be a BIG issue
rajeshchande Nov 23, 2006 11:44 AM (in response to rajeshchande)Thanks bela for teaching me something new.. :)
I found the serialversion UID for one of the class in each jdk on different servers as follows:
command used: serialver java.lang.String
server-1:
java.lang.String: static final long serialVersionUID = -6849794470754667710L;
server-2:
java.lang.String: static final long serialVersionUID = -6849794470754667710L;
but, its different for different classes, so Bela, the question now is how can we get it for a jdk as a whole? I doubt?
Any suggestions? Any comments?

7. Re: minor jdk version difference - would that be a BIG issue
belaban Nov 23, 2006 12:00 PM (in response to rajeshchande)You probably need to write a program which recursively goes through all classes in the JDK and compares SVUIDs

manik Nov 24, 2006 12:40 PM (in response to rajeshchande)This *may* help:
http://serialver.sourceforge.net/
It's an Ant task which means you could probably use Ant's file filters to glob the entire java/* and javax/* namespaces. Never tried it though. -

javidjamae Nov 26, 2006 1:10 AM (in response to rajeshchande)rajeshchande,
Just to clarify, there is no concept of a serialUID for the JDK itself, it is on a class by class basis. You could have some classes that change between minor versions, and others that don't.
