I was wondering how useful a version of Floyd Marinescu's EJBHomeFactory would be for local homes. Is it better to use a singleton to access these local home references, or is it more appropriate for beans to keep their own local home references (as member variables)? I am not sure what the implications are of either approach. Your thoughts?

Here is a related question. The reason why we worry about a home factory is because getting a jndi context and getting a reference from the jndi context are expensive operations - time consuming. We have a factory to cache our home interfaces. But how time consuming is it when the jndi is co located to the caller code as compared to when the jndi is not co located to the caller code. I can see wanting to have a factory when its no co located, but is it worth the trouble when its all co located in same Jvm ??
