Request for enhancement has been added: http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/RF-81 -

sergeysmirnov Apr 6, 2007 2:31 PM (in response to greko)we decided to avoid sending request by default if shift , ctrl ant other keys that do not change the text are pressed. However, onsubmit will be also added.

ilya_shaikovsky Apr 9, 2007 5:12 AM (in response to greko)But you can also decrease the processings right now using minChars attribute (so the first Ctrl, Shift etc.. wil be ignored because there is no input).
And also use common ajax4jsf attributes ingoreDupResponce, requestDelay, eventqueue etc..
Hope this helps while we provide additional features to make the box more flexible. -
