procedure to deploy ear and rar

Can Some one please answer the following questions

1) How do I deploy a .rar file or a ear file on Jboss 3.2.1? I use the following method

1).Copy servlet EAR file i from %home%\samples\servlet\build folder to the Jboss deploy directory located at %JBOSS_HOME%\server\default\deploy folder.
.
2).The servlet is deployed when the server is started using the run.bat file

Is this the right way or is there a method using the deployer tool?

But Can you please tell me the use of deployer.bat file. How do I use it? I just use the deploy directory to deploy the ear file. How is the deployer.bat helpful?

Never used it myself.
