Wrong transaction association

Could anybody shed some light on the conditions under which the following exception would be thrown:

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Wrong transaction association: expected TransactionImpl:XidImpl[FormatId=257, GlobalId=Venus/16, BranchQual=, localId=16] was null

I'm using a UserTransaction and XAOracleDS.
