I figured that out, idle-timeout-minutes is used by container to destroy connections when nothing happens to those connections.
Seems that setSoTimeout (socket timeout) must be taken care by the adapter writer, not the provider(jboss)? Is it true that jboss will not "destroy" the socket when SocketTimeoutException is thrown. -

is for the adapter to signal connectionErrorOccured().
