1. Re: How to create a component in JBoss which supports JMX
csanche7 May 14, 2002 7:24 AM (in response to angelawhelan)I don´t know what you want to do exactly, but in the on-line docs there is a chapter that can helps you in create a JMX Mbean. Then you can change it to fit your needs.

angelawhelan May 14, 2002 9:14 AM (in response to angelawhelan)hiya,
thanks for that.
Basically, I just want to run my company's software in JBoss as an MBean...
Up until now my organisation has written it's own software containers, but we are moving away from that now, and want to run our software within JBoss as an MBean.
Does that explain it any better ? I hope so :)

juha May 15, 2002 10:21 AM (in response to angelawhelan)as far as I understand, in 3.0 you just need to create a -service.xml file for your application (that deploys your mbeans).
But to make sure, ask David Jencks for details :)

4. Re: How to create a component in JBoss which supports JMX
cepage May 15, 2002 4:22 PM (in response to angelawhelan)Chapter 2 of "JBoss Administration and Development" has an excellent walkthrough of how to set up and deploy MBeans on the JBoss server. As Juha notes, if you want to run on 3.0, you have to make the jboss.jcml --> service.xml transition, but everything else will work fine on 3.0.
If you want strategies for effectively integrating your applications into the server via JMX, look at the MBeans in the JBoss source code. There are examples of how to integrate extremely diverse pieces of sofware, from databases, to queueing systems, to schedulers. By looking at this source code you will definitely find inspiration for effective JMX interfaces that can be layered onto your application infrastructure.
