unable to shutdown the server with shutdown.sh

I have a standard jboss configuration. The only configuration I changed is to change the tomcat to listen on 8000.
I start the jboss with the ./run.sh script. Then I try to shutwodn with the ./shutdown.sh. I got an Connection refused exception. But I can telnet to the port 1099.

Please give me a hnit what could be the possible cause for this?
