Alternatives to Russian Doll?

Is there any way to control the order of class loading, other than the russian doll approach of putting all the required jars in the WAR? I'm trying to pull our war files out of our ear files in order to deploy them separately. however the wars depend on classes in the ears.

Or for that matter, how to handle sars that depend on other sars being loadded first?
