Separate IMG directory from WAR file

Desperatly need help - I am developing web application on JBoss. IDE JDev 10.1.3, application server JBoss 4.0.4RC1, Postgre DB, server Mandriva Linux. Everything is nice, but I need to seperate the image directory because I really dont want to deploy application everytime when new image is added. Also I dont want to save data in DB due to implementation of Postgre BLOBs.
Is it possible to seperate IMG directory from WAR file? How to do that? What must be done in my project? What must be written in hrefs?
Dont suggest me to use DB, I DONT WANT TO. I need these files in directory which is visible from web application.
In google newgroups I found that its possible to store web project in directory sructure too.
No success if I just put the content of war file in deploy/<web project name> directory.
Is there a solutionfor this?

You can use the ROOT webapp for this purpose, simply put your /img dir under /deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/ROOT.war
Your images will be available under http://host/img/pic.jpg

Yes, but there is still the same problem (if I understood corectly)- they still all are in war file. It means that I must make this war EVERYTIME when have to change something. For example, I must store company worked data and photos. If a new worker entered, I must remake this war file and add new photo, but its much better if I could only upload the necessary file to directory which is visible to my app. In this example(with photos) it still may be ok, but what to do if there are gigs of data (for example files)?
Is there really no solution to make public directory whish is visible for JBoss aplications?

I found something called 'External directories' at

Maybe someone has already used this feature? Gona try in a while.

ROOT.war is exploded an you can add static files while the server is running.

ROOT.war is the name of w directory that has the structure of a WAR file, but it's just this, a directory.
