shutdown.sh not working in Unix and Solaris

When I user shutdown.bat it works fine but when I user ./shutdown.sh in HP RISC or solaris it shows error

log4j:ERROR failed to create directory structure: /log
log4j:ERROR setFile(null,False) call failed
java.io.FileNotFountException: /log/boot.log (No such file or directory)

this is b'coz I unerstood that in windows NT it checks for the root directory and places the log structure in the root but in Unix or solaris it is showing this error.

can anyone help me in this regard....................

create the /log directory maybe?

not sure if it the problem, but linux/unix does not have a /log directory as default. its /var/log for most flavors.

Looks like that some environment is missing.

What version do you use? I check with 5.1.0 (shutdown.sh -S) and it works.

Maybe there is a problem in the shellscript to locate the correct directory.

What if you set JBOSS_HOME to the root directory of your installation or start from root directory with bin/shutdown.sh
