these are configured on the connector in the jbm-configuration.xml file which doesn't make sense to me. The server should have no clue as where the clients keystore is located, there could be multiple clients using this connector each with its own keystore.

You can easily specify that property on the client side too, by specifying the transport configuration when creating the client sesion factory or JBossConnectionFactory
