The developers are experimenting with a stand-alone deployment of the JBoss JTS in the code test suite.
It's not officially supported yet, AFAIK, but it can be done today. -

jason.greene Oct 4, 2007 7:37 PM (in response to k-dub)As genman said, support for standalone JBoss JTA was recently added:
You could use it in current versions by writing your own TransactionManagerLookup. You could just copy ours:
http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbosscache/core/trunk/src/main/java/org/jboss/cache/transaction/JBossStandaloneJTAManagerLookup.java
This class also demonstrates how to obtain a UserTransaction instance from JBoss JTA.

pcarpenter Oct 7, 2007 10:10 AM (in response to k-dub)I was also in a need for a stand alone JTA implementation which would work with jboss Cache.
I Have tested stand alone configurations of 2.0 GA with
Atomikos transactions Essentials http://www.atomikos.com/products.html#ate
and ....
JTOM http://jotm.objectweb.org/
In both cases AFAICT the transaction seemed to work fine.
BTW.
I'd just assume e using Optimistic Transactions, and skip the need for a TM, but there is a need for a transaction manager with Optimistic configuration, also.
(After looking at the JIRA it seems it will no longer be required as of version 2.1) -

No, I'm just investigating the feasibility of doing away with the TM for optimistic locking. May not actually do away with it till a bit later.
And yes, I do know of people using JBC standalone with JOTM. -

aditsu Oct 8, 2007 11:41 PM (in response to k-dub)Well, what's wrong with DummyTransactionManagerLookup anyway? Why is it "not recommended for production use"?

manik Oct 9, 2007 7:53 AM (in response to k-dub)Performance, XA compliance, and mainly issues around not being able to cope with multiple threads using the same tx id.
