In the demo, the value for locale uses slash. May be you need it/IT . Try it. -

public void selectLocale(ValueChangeEvent event) { String tLocale = (String) event.getNewValue(); if (tLocale != null) { String lang = tLocale.substring(0, 2); String country = tLocale.substring(3); locale = new Locale(lang, country, ""); } }
and then the Locale property is connected to rich:calendar...
In my code in fact there is a casting (from string to Locale) exception...but in converter it works...
