Oracle and CLOB???

I get this error when trying to use Oracle 8 and a
CLOB mapping:

java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column

Can someone point me to a way to make this work?
Or do I need to use BLOB instead?
