1. Re: Possible ues of extjs in RichFaces
sergeysmirnov Sep 19, 2007 6:27 PM (in response to mgrouch)It is huge difference between what is named "components" in javascript and what are the JSF Components.
The component development cycle is started from a "dhtml+javascript prototype". However, it is just a very-very beginning. It is 1/10 in most cases. Sometimes, even more.
So, I cannot share your optimism that extjs boosts the RichFaces in the future. Sorry, about that. -
2. Re: Possible ues of extjs in RichFaces
mgrouch Sep 19, 2007 6:40 PM (in response to mgrouch)Well 1/10 is something, especially when it looks like here
http://extjs.com/playpen/ext-2.0-dev5/examples/
vs
http://livedemo.exadel.com/richfaces-demo/
One might think why use JSF? Seam Web Remoting and extjs combo might
be better... -

sergeysmirnov Sep 19, 2007 6:48 PM (in response to mgrouch)Thank you for your evaluation of my work. If you are asking not about JSF, but about using extjs with Seam applications, you are asking it on a wrong forum.

mgrouch Sep 19, 2007 7:15 PM (in response to mgrouch)I was just trying to give you an idea of how to reduce your efforts with
JavaScript coding really... -

sergeysmirnov Sep 19, 2007 7:19 PM (in response to mgrouch)The effort will be increased, actually.

damianharvey Oct 23, 2007 11:37 AM (in response to mgrouch)Not wanting to step on any toes, but there has already been some effort made by someone to make an Extjs JSF library : http://sharesource.org/project/lilya/
It doesn't appear to be particularly complete though and is on the previous version of Extjs.
Cheers,
Damian. -

cloud Dec 23, 2007 10:32 PM (in response to mgrouch)I'm aware that most js "component" stuff out there are not adapted to JSF until their authors make this change.
On the other part, until we do by our own this work instead of these authors, is there a way to answer some basic needs ?
Example : let's take a "basic" need like a wysiwyg editor, fckeditor for example. What can we do to use it into Seam ? Is there something in RichFaces planned for that kind of need ? -

fmarwede Dec 24, 2007 8:13 AM (in response to mgrouch)@cloud: Look at http://labs.jboss.com/auth/wiki/RichFacesFuture . Nice overview if you wanna see (and actually influence) what likely comes next. For example an 'inplace editor' (whatever this will be exactly) is planned for 3.2.0.
@mgrouch: Thank you for info about extjs. But in my opinion it is very difficult to integrate in Richfaces (it's really something different like - for example - script.aculo.us). And I don't want wanna use it instead of Richfaces because I love RF for doing all the Javascript stuff (particularly AJAX stuff) for me.
Anyhow it is a nice resource to get to ideas und perhaps one can use some features of extjs next to RF in the same application. Perhaps someone can validate for us how to do that and if it makes sense at all. -
9. Re: Possible ues of extjs in RichFaces
sergeysmirnov Dec 24, 2007 4:39 PM (in response to mgrouch)There are no conflicts RichFaces libraries with EXT JS. You can use them together if you are able to leash EXT JS. Its programming paradigm is too opposite to JSF itself.
