Today, we are launching the public beta of the much-anticipated Yahoo! OpenID Provider service. This means that users with a Yahoo! account - all 248 million of them - will be able to sign in to any website that supports OpenID 2.0, the latest version of the OpenID specification.

The OpenID Foundation announced Thursday that Google, IBM, Microsoft, Yahoo and VeriSign have all joined its board of directors. The foundation hopes this will help speed wide-spread adoption of its decentralized identity management system, which allows users to access multiple websites using a single login.
