Getting Started with JBoss 4.0 - Version 2

I have been working though the Getting Started guide over the last couple of days and quite by accident realized that the document was updated to version 2 yesterday (Nov 22, 2004). The only way you can tell is the dates in the zip file and the contents of the PDF.

The contents of the files (jbossj2ee-src.zip) are the same.

I have been working through the Duke's Bank example so I am pretty familiar with that section. I noticed that the reference to the Apache JSTL stuff has been removed as the required files are included in the jbossj2ee-src.zip file.

I'm not sure what other changes were made.

I think it would be useful if these document were posted on SF or something so versions can be tracked. I also think that it would reduce confusion if the jbossj2ee-src.zip file were named with a version number as the files that go with JBoss 3.x and JBoss 4 are VERY different. Perhaps jbossj2ee-4.0.0-src.zip or some such.

Speaking of the jbossj2ee-src.zip file, since the only place that file seems to be availabe is in the zip file with the PDF and the PDF is not available outside of the zip file, I would suggest changing the first sentence of section 4.1.1 to read "You should have received a copy of the supplementary JBoss files in the same zip file that contained this document." or similar. Alternatively, the supplementary files should be made availlable seperately and a URL should be included.

Yeah, you caught it at a weird time. I posted the files, but due to a permissions problem I couldn't update the links on the docs page to indicate that it's a new version.

I'll definitely look at a better way to package it in a future release. The current packaging is the way it is mainly for historical reasons. It doesn't really need to be like that anymore, but I hadn't considered it a priority until I saw these comments.

For those curious, the biggest changes were the inclusion of the JSTL libraries, updates to the oracle and mysql instructions and the hibernate chapter. Everything else was simple corrections to the text.
