    Comments on the module Downloads

The downloads module is a cool addition to Nukes. However, the Add Download fields will be too confusing for most end users. What would be nice is a Browse button to search for files from your hard drive and an Upload File button. An example of this is located in the Manage html module when adding a new page for a file. Anything else besides the browse and upload file buttons should be optional.

What if the download is a 700MB CDROM image? I like being able to organize my downloads without creating BLOBs in the database. Perhaps both a "simple" interface and an "advanced" interface?

AFAIK fhe 'Downloads' module does not store any file (no upload), it just stores metadata about files and count how many times the file has been downloaded.
These are just links to actual files that are probably not on your server (it could be).

How about making the download module upload and download files to a directory on the server as well? That would be a very useful feature for many web sites, end users could upload/download whatever files they wanted to. A lot of end users will want to share files but they are not going to have a server to share their files from.

I've recently been appointed as lead for the downloads module and I've already decided a file upload option is something I'd like to see. However I am not so sure if it's something that will make it in to the Nukes 1.1 release. Right now I'm just trying to make the downloads module stable and finish all existing features.

Besides allowing local and remote downloads I'm also considering allowing multiple download locations for a single download(mirrored files) in the future. I'd appreciate any other ideas anyone has for the future of the downloads module.

When you get the file upload/download option implemented, I suspect people will queue up to download Nukes like you were giving away free hotdogs and cokes. File uploading/downloading is something that appeals to the masses.

It would be better if people could actually send hotdogs and cokes to chasetec for his contribution in that way.

:) Now I'm try to figure out how I would explain to my girlfriend that having a mailbox full of hotdogs was a good thing....

BTW, I've already started working on the file download stuff.
