SelectOneMenu for modalPanel

Hi,
I am trying for

<h:selectOneMenu value="#{myBean.carType}">

within modalPanel and on change it will submit value to bean and display remaining contains on the basis of selected choice but I am unable to get value in bean without submitting form, if i submit form my modalPanel hides!!

from last few days i am trying to not to hide modalPanel until Submitt button is pressed but no success is there any one to help me out??

you should submit the modal panel form using a4j action components. MP will not be closed in this case.

I but how can I assign the selected value to

<a4j:actionparam />

I did try by using

<a4j:support event="onchange" >

but not working
can You please suggest how can I use <a4j:actionparam/> ?
