KernelObject.setKernel usage

For the BeanDeployer I need the Kernel the BeanDeployer is associated with to create a BasicXMLDeployer instance. Is any bean that implements KernelObject supposed to be associated with its kernel via setKernel?

No. But it can implement KernelControllerContextAware
from which you can do context -> controller -> kernel

This is more like the MBeanRegistration
e.g. implemented by ServiceMBeanSupport.

Although there are plans to generalize this "experimental" interface,
it should still provide the same functionality:

Another way would be to just inject it, using the name from
KernelConstants::KernelName
