Download generated file and still rerender

Hello there,

I can't find an answer to this anywhere so far so hope that someone can help!

I have code that automatically generates a PDF to a ByteArrayOutputStream. I can download the file without a problem using the t:commandlink, but as is documented elsewhere cannot be done with an a4j:commandlink.

I need to perform a download AND rerender the content on my page all in one click... am I asking the impossible? Does anyone have a workaround or suggestions for this please?

Could you perform the download in an iframe and re-render parts of your current page?

It's not something I fancy doing to be honest - I'm not entirely sure how I would achieve that?
