 Thanks for sticking with me on this!
 I still can't figure out why I (we) are getting the error message: External entity not found: "http://java.sun.com/dtd/application_1_3.dtd".
 however, looking at that DTD I did spot (I think) errors with my application.xml file, in that the <web-uri> and <context-root> (which I had incorrectly named "context") elements should in fact be within the scope of the element.
 Unfortunately, the other error still persists!

 I haven't put the DOCTYPE tag for application.xml in my development. I think you can remove it.
 I'm using JBoss 3.0Beta and the DOCTYPE doesn't seem to be needed.
