1. Re: Updates to the Rules Service
kconner Mar 10, 2008 9:26 AM (in response to kconner)Jeff, can you describe your changes here so everyone can get an idea for what you are proposing? I would like to get this done this week so that it can be considered for the current schedule.
Thanks,

jeffdelong Mar 10, 2008 11:48 AM (in response to kconner)Kevin,
The easiest way to describe the proposed changes might be to review the RuleSerivces.odt that I updated.
Is there a particular email list I could send the document to?

3. Re: Updates to the Rules Service
kurtstam Mar 10, 2008 11:54 AM (in response to kconner)The major changes are incorporation of the jbrms console, and allowing stateful use of a Rules Based Service. It be great to get both in, but I do think we may need some good testing of the console (the one that comes with 4.0.3 gives me permgen issues after a few hours of simply being deployed).

4. Re: Updates to the Rules Service
jeffdelong Mar 10, 2008 12:03 PM (in response to kconner)Support of the BRMS console per se is not a feature of the Rule Service. The Rule Service (as I have extended it), supports the RuleAgentAPI. This allows a rule package to be pulled from either the BRMS (via URL) or a file system.
Support for the BRMS (as in support as part of the subscription), is a related issue and has concerns related to the BRMS quality / stability as Kurt points out. It may be that the next release of the SOA Platform rule service provides RuleAgentAPI support without BRMS support.
Also to add to Kurt's comments, the proposed Rule Service would also support Decision Tables. -
5. Re: Updates to the Rules Service
marklittle Mar 10, 2008 12:06 PM (in response to kconner)The BRMS is being supported now (early adopters), but will definitely be supported in the 4.3 release of the SOA Platform. Since that's a few months down the line, it should give us enough time to fully QA it.

marklittle Mar 12, 2008 5:01 AM (in response to kconner)BTW Jeff, by "next release" do you mean ESB 4.3 or FP01 for the SOA Platform 4.2?

7. Re: Updates to the Rules Service
kconner Mar 12, 2008 5:28 AM (in response to kconner)The reason I posted his initial request was to consider it for 4.3. As we are in a timeboxed schedule we are fixing the list of new features from next Monday.
FP1 is still open, as far as I am aware, but this may be a big change for it. -
8. Re: Updates to the Rules Service
marklittle Mar 12, 2008 9:40 AM (in response to kconner)OK thanks for the clarification. I couldn't see a version in the forum posts or title, so I needed to check. Yes, this is too big a chance for FP01.
