You are right outside of JBoss, evict has no impact on the query execution time (I have the lib of JBoss in the classpath)
If I just run the same test inside JBoss4.0.3RC1, performance of the query without evict becomes bad.

Yes, but I did not find any answer so far. I'll need to profile that code.
