rich:calendar - ManualInput and popUp combination?

Hi all,
Is it possible to make rich:calendar even with enableManualInput="true" open its popUp?
If calendar is clicked, the field is set. If not, when field loses focus the popUp is closed.

Any idea?

Maybe seens something stupid... but my manager asked me "And when the user has to input a birthday for example? He has to click and click and click backwards... until the year of 1974?"
