Hello I have 2 questions on this topic:
1. How does richfaces paint the panels with a color gradient...
2. Is there a way I can use that facility to paint any control?

Thanks Sergey! I've seen it, I just don't understand it :-) I'm not sure how the whole thing ends up creating color gradients. Can I just create my own color gradeint...like say a gradient that goes from blue to yellow?

yes, you can. Just create your class with paint method and reference to it in the xcss file
