Java Content Repository and jBPM integration

Someone could explain how JCR (JackRabbit) and jBPM is integrated?

I'd like to use all features that Apache JackRabbit provides, and not only coupled with jBPM. For example, I want to integrate jBPM with my web-application and use the Document Management feature provided with JackRabbit decoupled from Workflows.
So, can I use the JackRabbit integrated with jBPM to manage documents for all purposes, without link with any workflow?

Personnaly I'll check that later but from what I've seen on the JCR documentation it doesn't seem really difficult to change the access mode if you want to share it with another application (note that I didn't look how jBPM use it... maybe there is no change to make).
