define variable and its value in the process definition

Hi,
I would like to define a variable in the xml process definition file, so that all activities of instances can get it (if possible without modifying it).

please,what is the appropriate syntax?

this is only possible via an indirect way. Please search the forum first (e.g. with google) for previous discussions and solutions on this subject
