Null pointer exception on filtering rich data table

When values in a column are null rich table filtering throws null pointer exception. What is the workaround.

Also how can I show filters on demand (like a button that says show filters ) and is there a way to control the size of the filter field ?

filter field also now have rich-filter-input predefined class.
