RichFaces Future.  Plans for the next 6 months

Thanks to everyone who voted and/or made suggestions at:
      http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=134778

Based on the result, we have distributed our resources and now can announce our vision about the RichFaces closest future (6-month term)

We plan to release two versions.
RichFaces 3.2.2 - Beginning of August 2008 (QA phase starts - Beginning of July)
RichFaces 3.3.0 - Mid November 2008 (QA phase starts - Beginning of October)

According to the result of the poll, about 75% of resources will be dedicated to the section #3 (Code Stability)
Additional information about each release, you can find here:
      http://wiki.jboss.org/auth/wiki/RichFacesWhatIsNewIn3_2_2
      http://wiki.jboss.org/auth/wiki/RichFacesWhatIsNewIn3_3_0

      Your suggestions are welcome.

          Thanks for the update!
By the way, what's version in the RichFaces live demo page? I noticed a bug in a scollableDataTable (the vertical gridline does not show for the last frozenColumn) is fixed in the demo page, but I tried 3.2.0 and 3.2.1 snapshot versions, I still saw the problem.

The version is shown at the footer of each page. At this moment (May 21, 2008), it is 3.2.1.CR3.

It's good to see how serious is the richfaces project.

I haven't seen anything about performance improvement in the planned tasks. Is it one of your goal in this two next release ?

(as performance is a requested improvement in http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/RichFacesFuture)

By the way, it's weird but sometimes to access the richfaces wiki I have to log in and sometimes not...

The term "performance improvement" is too abstract. We closes dozens jira issues that relate to the performance. Those issues mention the concrete problems and have a measurement when they are ready to pronounce closed.

You could not imagine how many hours I lost during the editing data missing it when the Save is pressed. JBoss Wiki is a real live in the big city. Unfortunately, we, as a richfaces team, could do nothing to make it better. We are just end users there as you are.

Also, please sergey, is there a release date for RF 3.2.1 GA ? It contains some fixes I would appreciate.
I see the repo contains the CR5 which is ppretty stable and there are only cosmetic Jira's opened now, so I guess it must be very close.

We going to release last CR build today. After QA cycle will be finished(successfully certainly :) ) on this build it will be announced as GA.

I don't see a planned date for an upcoming 3.1.6 maintenance release?

Please don't forget about the "old" version as I'm quite sure I'm not the only one, that is not able to use JSF 1.2 due to server / customer constraints [OC4J 10.1.3.1]

This topic was about new development, not about the upcoming release in general.
RichFaces 3.2.1 GA will released this week
RichFaces 3.1.6 GA is shortly after that. However, do not expect too much changes there. As best I know, only couple of issues about dependency on jdk 1.5. classes will be resolved there.

                          I have a wish:

Where or how can I suggest future request?

                          I want to have a Ribbon-Menu as a new Rich-Faces-Component.

A Ribbon-Menu such as the new look in "Microsofts Office Vista".

The Ribbon-Menu should have high customizable properties to do things like personalisation (menus, links, preference arranges of menu-groups, menu-elements and the like)

Could we integrate it in a new RichFaces-Version ??? Please, please, please :-)

Oh I have a second wish:

It would be so fine to integrate a new property to the Rich ToolTip-Component:

                            Name:
                            hyperlink

                            Description:
A hyperlink open a new (modal)-panel (or browser) with the relevant information.

                            Example:
Imagine, a User clicks on a component (or anything like that), the tooltip is shown with a link embedded for more information about that component.
It is very useful for interactive help.

                            It would be so nice!

                              I have a wish 2:

                              Increased performance for scrollableDataTables

Sorry, this was 2 easy ;)

                              • 12. Re: RichFaces Future.  Plans for the next 6 months

nimo22, new components already planned to next two versions according to votes.

B.t.w. your wish about tooltip is pretty simple to implement right now. Tooltip could have any content inside. Including links.

lessard, check our jira and you'll see all the bugs planned to 3.2.2 and 3.3.0. So just checkall the scrollable problems we've planned to be solved.

Is it possible to add column drag and drop like a windows grid ??
Sometimes the requirement is comming like this..and its a really important issue..it will be really nice if next richfaces version comes with this feature

As we already wrote - planes for next two versions has been completed according to forum/jira/wiki votes(and placed ther and in our wiki). Check if this feature exist in wiki and if no - you could add it. Or just vote if present.
