How to change selectedChild from panelMenu ?

Im using panelmenu for navigation and i try to change from my bean the selected item, what i have to do ?

i know "setSelectedChild" method exist, but i can't get the UIPanelMenu instance.

I dont want the panelmenu remember the last selected item when i close the panelgroup and open again.

I think the problem come on I reRender the panelMenu but the method from selectedChild="${componentNavigator.currentItem}" isnt called.

The first time the page is render the method is called, but never again.
