They have no plans for Shotoku as they are using the JCR directly.

Shotoku enables you to use annotations to access different repositories--JCR and non-JCR. Shotoku uses the high level concepts that one might use in any given CMS or repository and is a subset of those in the JCR. It shouldn't be thought of as a "choice between JCR or Shotoku" but rather as "I can use this to simplify access to a JCR or other types of repositories that don't have a JCR implementation."
